Inside a German supermarket/ REAL

When we first lived in Germany years ago, I went out of my way to avoid shopping in the German supermarkets. I suppose I thought that I could get all I needed at the commissary. Why would I NEED to go to a German store? The Super Real ( pronounced RE-AL) which we have in our village is much like a Super Walmart or Super Tesco.  You can get everything from pots and pans, shoes, clothes, and a huge variety of foods.

In truth, it's a great shame to miss out on the experience inside your local REAL.

The butcher shop in the Real.  All kinds of offerings here from wursts to maultaschens.

The smoked fish section.  I LOVE this section. Great picnic food here.

We got a selection of smoked salmon, haddock, herring and something I am not sure about, but it was good.

Next we stop off at our Mediterranean section to get our favorites.  The pink sauce second from the right is whipped roe.  The lady said it tastes like cavier.  It did NOT!  Remember to try new things, the worst that can happen is that you don't care for it.

We got our favorites.  We love the sweet red peppers stuffed with cheese. Top right.

They have a wonderful assortment of sheep and goats cheese as well as feta.

Today we purchased stuffed wine leaves and our favorite little peppers.  We tried something new at the butcher shop. It was a horseradish cheese wrapped in ham and glued together by some gelatonous mix.  I discovered (if you like horseradish) that if you cut it very thin and place it on a  ham sandwich with mayo and fixin's.  It's really yummy.

Now let's talk shoes.
I LOVE shoes.  Those of you who know me, know that I have a difficult time finding nice shoes because my feet are so small. Size 5 in America, size 36 in Europe. I often have to go to the children's department and I am less then satisfied with the choices I find there.

Just look at these adorable "vented" walking shoes.  Who wants to wear sneakers when these are so cute!

Now look at these sweet little heels. These feel like slippers on your feet. We took an unexpected "walk about" with friends in Bad Teinach.  I remember thinking, "I will pay for this tomorrow probably because I have heels on."  Not at all!  My feet felt wonderful.  So if you have a hard to find size like me or you want my cute shoes, go to a Super Real.  The prices were  about 30 dollars and 50 dollars. Quite reasonable for all leather uppers.

Mac loves to go look around in REAL.  He gives it a thumbs up.
