THE FASHIONS OF OKTOBERFEST CRITIQUE

Most of us won't admit it but it is rather fun to sit in a cafe and people watch.
You see the most interesting things.
Cousin Terry and I are no exception and Oktoberfest seemed a great time to do just that.  Being the fashion divas we are, we thought we'd  give you some fashion tips if you should ever visit
Oktoberfest in Munich.

Mimi says:  I was disappointed with the choice of green tights that clashed with the dirndl.
Terry says: This is just B-lech! It looks like she was dressed by a colorblind Leprechaun!

Mimi says:  No, no, no first of all lose the red bag, it clashes...... and the plaid, there's only ONE way to wear plaid.
Terry says:  OH....where do I begin to count the wrong!!!!!

Mimi says:  These Scottish lads show you the proper way to wear plaid.
Terry says:  Alright, I agree with you on this one...these two are rocking it!  Now what did you say they had on underneath Mimi?
Mimi says: I did live in Scotland for four years and I am afraid I only got out alive because I agreed NEVER to disclose that secret Terry!

Mimi says:  Oh just look at this little boy.  He is German 'cool'.  I just love the look.
Terry says: Definitely.. a young Brad Pitt!

Mimi says: " I have two daughters and I love the mother/daughter dress alike theme.
This Mom really rocked the look with these boots.
Terry says: My absolute Favorite of the day...I need to purchase a pair of those boots!

Mimi says: Their outfits aren't bad....I was thinking the boot is a great idea at Oktoberfest! They might feel sorry and let you in a tent to sit.  Good idea Mr!
Terry says:  Perhaps, but "come on" It's Oktoberfest...dress that boot up!!!!! Failed for lack of imagination.

Mimi says: Not bad, again if you dress alike make sure you don't clash!
Terry says:  Alright...maybe nice; but BORING!!!!

Mimi says:  Now, these leather trousers are just not working for me. Don't copy this look folks!
Terry says:  Well, I don't know Mimi......Take off about 20 Lbs, 15 years and that tattoo..it might work.

Mimi says: Cute look.  The men loved it.  It's kinda of a cheerleader for a rugby team look.
Terry says:  Yikes!!!! Grown woman or little girl wanna be?!

Mimi says:  I think they are adorable!
Terry says:  I agree.."adorable" they look like they live on a mountain with their parents and sheep. So cute.

Mimi says:  Two words for you people.  AGE APPRORIATE...and this wasn't.
Terry says: This is just all kinds of nasty..and the cigarette really adds to the ensom!

Mimi says: I am speechless at both outfits.
Terry says:  Can we say "un matched?" Not to mention she has too much going on with the dress. Accessories not necessary!

Mimi says:  Pippi Longstocking all grown-up.  She does have the legs for the look, I'll admit.
Terry says:  I have no comment.

Mimi says:  You always have your males at Oktoberfest in drag but this look is all wrong.
Terry says: He's obviously straight....no true girl in their right mind would have put THIS THING together!!!

Mimi says:  If you are going to dress in drag...work the look....be comfortable
and have a ball with it.  This guy was.
Terry says: Just all kinds of WRONG going on here!! Oh, my eyes, my eyes!!!
Mimi says:  I don't know I think he's rocking it....what do our readers think?

Mimi says:  They aren't the Canadian Royal Mounted but they will do.
What do you think Terry?
Terry says:  Well, I think..."OUCH". 1-800-spank me!!
Mimi says:  Terry behave yourself!

Mimi says:  Send in the clowns.....there have to  be clowns!
Terry says:  Wow...Thing 1 and Thing 2 have really grown-up!
Mimi says: LADIES, LADIES please check the handbag and your skirt when you leave the ladies room
Terry says:  It could happen to anyone....I suppose, but does make you want to be a little more careful!

Mimi says:  It was a daring move on his part to dress in yellow overalls that barely cover his whatnots, what do you think Terry?
Terry....?

Sorry folks gotta run and call 911.....My cousin Terry is out cold on the floor!

Oktoberfest Munich, Germany

I know what you are thinking. You are thinking how much I don't like beer, so why on earth would I attend October Fest?
Let me show you.

This year Oktoberfest is celebrating it's 200 year anniversary and since we are here in Germany, it seemed a shame to miss it.
We arrived early this year so we could see the opening parade.

The pageantry and music are wonderful.
Here's the Oktoberfest princess heading up the festivities.

Carts of each tent's dignitaries.
Look at the flowers decorating this one.

Teams of horses
(these were my favorite)

drawing the flower-adorned floats

Each tent has a wagon of flower adorned kegs.

Look at these clever ladies!  They brought their own 'bretzel' snacks hanging round their necks.

Band after band came by...

This little man took it all very seriously.
He did a very good job though!

People riding on the floats threw flowers to bystanders.
Cousin Terry and I got this beautiful rose.

Our policeman friend who was managing our section of the crowd got a flower as well.
Terry does love her men in uniform.
FYI: her son is a policeman in Los Angles.
Now, lets move on to the food.

The food is quite different than what we expect at our "fairs".
Here's smoked fish on a stick....it's actually really good.

Fish sandwiches.....a bit different than McDonald's but popular.

Chocolate covered fruit on sticks.  These are pineapple chunks.

The German versions of pizza.
They do have cotton candy and gingerbread too.
Let's move on to the games and rides.

You name the ride

They have it.

As well as the scary fun house.

All the normal games we have at fairs.

A quick word about the beer tents.
There are 14 large tents and some 20 smaller ones.
This is the Löwenbräu tent.
It's 15-foot lion lets out a roar now and then and takes a sip from it's beer.
I was thinking the Belfast Lions could use this at the high school (minus the beer of course)
It might intimidate the other football teams and we'd go on a winning streak.

We did manage to get a seat in one of the smaller tents for lunch.

I chatted for a moment with this man who was drawing up the beers and cokes for the crowd.
He enjoys his job, he says because he meets so many interesting people from all over the world.
I liked him because he was very kind and said my German was "pretty good."

Mac gives Oktoberfest a thumbs up.  He says to tell you,
"If we have to miss the Unity Fair in Maine this year,
I suppose Oktoberfest will suffice."

Lermoos, Austria /Hotel Post

Austria! It never disappoints.  Mac and I agree that this is probably our most favorite country.
We love Vienna for it's music and culture, Salzburg for it's Mirabell gardens, Hohensalzburg Fortress and Mozart!
St. Gilgen for it's utter beauty
and Lermoos for it's view of the alps and being just what people think a typical
Austrian village should be.
In fact, we recommend a vacation/holiday with two days in each location.

We decided on the lovely Hotel Post
Kirchplatz 6 Lermoos
6631

The hotel lobby looked promising as we walked in and asked for our room key.

We were awestruck with our room (number 115)
This is a warming oven called a kachelofen.
Very nice if you are on a ski holiday.

The bed with a view into the bathroom.
We were wondering why they had a window open into
the bath.

Living room and view toward the balcony.

This hotel had a great attention to detail.
Here's a backpack for hiking should you decide a wander through the village and alps is in order and
a bag filled with all you need to head down to the pool or the spa.

We were impressed with the room, but when we saw the view from the balcony, we were over-awed.
Is that a word?

Alp view from our room!
Just fantastic.

This is the view that greeted us in the morning.
A mist in the valley and the alps towering above.
The air was fresh and clean.
A morning to linger with a cup of coffee.

Fantastic isn't it?

Mac gives it 3 thumbs up and says to tell you, "I figured out why they have a window in the bathroom.  It's because from the tub you can see the alps."
Oh, and he really liked the little "spa" rubber ducky the hotel provided too!
Well, friends you know he isn't shy right?
Tomorrow we'll tell you about the amazing dinner and breakfast included in the price of the room.
